Renault’s Nepta concept is exactly the reason why we love the Paris Motor Show. With ever-increasing talk of such mundane items as fuel economy, emissions control and safety, we can always count on the French to do something gorgeously ridiculous.
So it is with the Nepta, a boat-tailed four-seat gullwing cabriolet. With a luxuriously impractical white leather interior, 23-inch wheels and a 3.5-liter bi-turbo V-6 giving 420-horsepower, it’s just this side of ludicrous. But the French pull the whole thing off with such grace, that the crazily indulgent endeavor almost seems reasonable.
In a time where tight budgets mean that most concept cars have at least a couple of tires set in reality, it’s wonderful to see an automaker go on a lark and create a gullwinged flight of fancy.
